What Is Random Text Chat?
Random text chat is a way to talk to a stranger one-on-one, purely by typing. You open the page, press start, and the site connects you with another person who happens to be online at that exact moment. There are no profiles to browse and no friend lists to build — just an empty message box and someone you’ve never spoken to.
It sits somewhere between a public chat room and a private message. Unlike a room, only two people are in the conversation, so there’s no scrolling past a dozen strangers talking over each other. Unlike a message thread, there’s nothing to set up first and nothing left behind afterwards.

Add a topic (optional)
Type an interest or tap one of the topic chips — music, gaming, travel — to steer who you’re matched with. Skipping this step is completely fine.
Say something real
You’re connected in under a second. Open with a question rather than “hi” — it hands the other person something easy to answer.
Skip, react or report
Not clicking? Tap Skip. You can reply to a specific message, react with an emoji, or report anyone who breaks the rules.

Don’t share your full name, address, school, workplace, phone number or social handles. Chatfun never asks for any of them, and you don’t need to volunteer them.

Report what shouldn’t happen

Random text chat pairs you with a stranger for a one-on-one conversation carried out entirely by typing. You press start, the site connects you to someone else who is online at that moment, and you talk until either of you skips to a new person.
Is random text chat on Chatfun really free? +
Yes. Chatting costs nothing and doesn’t need an account. VIP is optional and adds extras such as gender and country filters and longer voice or video calls; everything on this page works without it.
Do I need to sign up or download an app? +
No. Chatfun runs in your browser on both phones and computers. Open the page, confirm you’re 18 or older, and you’re in. You only confirm your age once on each device.
What can the person I’m chatting with see about me? +
They see you as “Stranger,” along with your gender and country. They never see a name, email address or phone number, because none is ever collected. Anything you choose to type is up to you — so keep personal details out of it.
Are my text chats saved? +
Messages are passed between you and your match and aren’t stored on our servers after your session ends. The person you’re talking to could still screenshot or copy what you write, so don’t send anything you wouldn’t want kept.
How do I get better matches? +
Add one or two topics before you start — music, gaming, travel, anything. Chatfun then prioritises pairing you with someone who picked the same ones. Leave it blank and you’re matched with whoever is next in line.
What should I do if someone is rude or inappropriate? +
Tap Skip to leave immediately — you never have to explain yourself. To flag the chat, use the report button while you’re in it. Chats pass through automated filters and human moderators, and people who break the rules are banned.
Can I switch from text to video? +
You can choose Video at the start for a face-to-face chat, using random video chat. VIP members can also start a voice or video call from inside a text chat, and either person can accept or decline.
